Top mistakes to avoid when using gum removal equipment

When using gum removal equipment, avoiding common operator mistakes is essential to ensure efficient, safe, and cost-effective cleaning for businesses, councils, and property managers. Common errors include:

  1. Incorrect fluid settings: Unlike most other machines, the heaters in our Ecogum range are automatically set between 95 – 100 degrees Celsius, meaning that the operator only needs to change the fluid setting. After priming the machine, ensure your machine is set between settings 2 – 3, this will give your machine the correct flow of liquid to effectively remove chewing gum.
  2. Using the wrong cleaning solutions: Not all machines are compatible with every cleaning fluid. Using harsh chemicals or inappropriate attachments can damage surfaces or leave residues. Always use the manufacturer-recommended, pH-neutral cleaning solutions to avoid corrosion and ensure safe, effective gum removal. All of our machines use our recommended pH-neutral detergent.
  3. Over-cleaning or damaging surfaces: Holding the machine’s lance too long in one spot or scrubbing excessively can damage delicate pavements, tarmac, or carpets. Gentle, consistent sweeping motions prevent damage and ensure thorough cleaning without unnecessary surface damage.
  4. Neglecting maintenance schedules: We advise that machines be drained of our pH-neutral detergent after each day of use - this helps reduce damage over time. Additionally, if you notice a spill inside the machine, make sure to clean it promptly as a best practice. Since our recommended solution is self-cleaning, do not use any external cleaning products in the machine. Skipping these routines reduces machine efficiency, shortens its lifespan, and increases repair costs.
  5. Insufficient training and safety practices: Operators must read the instruction manual before use and understand all safety precautions. Well-trained staff help reduce accidents and improve cleaning outcomes.
